so, I was sick (and look how many variations of barf I can say)

yesterday, I woke up having the stomach pains and the chills. thinking it was the usual "that time of the month again" I took a shower and went to the office.

Halfway there I felt this need to ... upchuck. All I wanted was to run to the nearest bathroom and spew my guts but since I cannot just toss my cookies, I waited until I was at the office, asked the little boy for a platic bag and raced to the bathroom, half-tottering, slipping in my pointy flats.

Let me tell you. Doing the technicolor yawn felt so good that time. All I wanted to do was to barf and barf until everything was out. I didn't mind people coming in hearing me puke. This was life and death.

I finished after around 2 minutes to wash myself off and went up to the office, still feeling the chills. It was 8:03...

at 9:00, I was getting the chills, my hands are cold. Niña and Ben felt my shivering hands and had resulted to measures like socks at my hands and after, gloves from Sally, I already called it quits and skivved off for a whole day sick leave after the CTC insuance. At 10:38 or so. I went to the doctors, and went home to tumble into bed at 1pm.

For the past 20 hours I was probably sleeping. only to wake up for meals and meds then drift off to sleep. I knew I was feeling better then I woke up 3am today and the light-headedness was gone. The headache also and the nausea. and I couldn't sleep anymore. I was alive enought today to play fatal frame 2 the whole afternoon, only flinching when I hear the phone vibrate or the thunder made the controllers vibrate.

Now, I will be driftng off to sleep. and hopefully will be ready to go to work tomorrow.

tumatanda ngunit bata parin..

the halo halo. a filipino delicacy. If the americans have their hot fudge sundae, the chinese have the shaved ice and fruits with mix beans, here we have the halo-halo. from the filipino word halo which means mix/or a variant, it could either be mix-mix, or mix-variant, or a variant-variant, you be the judge.

milky way's halo halo at powerplant
the usual halo-halo can have...

the "fillings" namely but not limited or does it contain all of the following: Kaong (sweet sugar palm), preserved coconut strips drenched in syrup, langka(jackfruit), leche flan (similar to egg custard), sweet banana, unflavored or sweetened gulaman (gelatin) in different colors, monggo beans, and ube hilaya. If there are toppings which I managed to forget, please do pardon me. sometimes sago or tapioca is also placed.

after all the sweet stuff is patted at the bottom of the tall glass, a nice snowfall of shaved ice is filled to the brim, poured over condensed milk or regular milk and sugar syrup, and if you're lucky, a scoop or two of ice cream (preferably ube) tops the whole thing with a flourish. (if not, regular ube hilaya or leche flan is on top).

i'm particularly picky when it comes to eating halo-halo. they don't call it halo for nothing. after you salvitate looking the the devious conction it takes another 2-3 minutes (5 if you're anal like me) to mix everything until the whole thing is purple from the ube. it is a messy and a fun thing to do to see layers of colors turn all purple. and such a satisfaction to cool of the hard mixing, a challenge not to drip or topple the ice cream off the glass, or splatter ice shavings everywhere.

Or you can be a goddamn jackass and eat it in the order you see it like i (the jackass) tried to, but there is not point since that is not the true essence of eating halo-halo.

something about milky way's halo-halo I liked, since eating the ice on their halo-halo isn't like eating glass shards. but like soft snow. it totally won me over.

the meme: me in a box

So, say you were meeting a new person — blind date, new friend, who knows. And you wanted them to have some idea of what kind of person you are, and who you are. But you can't actually tell them in so many words. Instead, you have to give them a box, with thirteen things in it for them to look at / read / listen to / taste / whatever. What would you put in the box? And a copy of your journal or a link to your LJ would be the same thing as just telling them directly, yourself, so that's not allowed.

1. Wilson (My Laptop)
2. The Killers' Sam's Town CD
3. A Starbucks tumbler
4. Adeline Yen Mah's Falling Leaves
5. A notebook of poems
6. My 5 year old 2MP Sony DSC Camera
7. My DLSU ID
8. My NEC Telecom ID
9. Leather choker/leather armband with spikes
10. My Red and black checkered tie
11. A pleated mini skirt
12. A PS2 Memory Card
13. my black necklace with a silver cross

insult everything but NOT my god damn music.

Tuesday, I was "forced" to pick up my mom and sister at work since the driver didn't come in. On the way to pick up my mom (we were still around the magallanes area when she saw her "friends"/co-teachers who all hitched a ride to edsa.

The Killers was currently playing that time, I hear murmurs of confusion and even amusement, the words tunog-addict (sounds wasted), Elton John, John Bon Jovi, was heard

Damn them, I said, wishing I installed eject chairs and I can just throw anybody out if they insulted what was on my car stereo, or just turn the music on higher

For someone who already is just hitching a ride, they sure got the guts to pick on what i was listening, let alone them joining us added an uncessesary 15 minutes of travel time since Edsa's Taft --> Buendia has short lanes and really far u-turn slots.

I even told my sister after they got out of the car,

Tangina, don't insult my the killers, and I won't insult their Pelita Corales.

You wear a real short skirt, I wanna look up, look up, look up, yeah, yeah...

Since I was having The Killers' Sam's Town on repeat on most of my car rides, I was missing my Hot Fuss CD. Now that I have conveiniently located it after the cleanup , this was my music for the morning.
I remember skipping over a few tracks 2 years ago when I first listened to it, although i have to admit Somebody Told Me, Mr. Brightside, and the Midnight Show was my favorites and even skipped tracks to get there since it was Tracks 2,4, and 10. But when I popped it in the CD player I was cruisin all the songs. Even the slow ones I have gotten to appreciate it very well. Like Believe Me Natalie , Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll, Smile Like You Mean It and some others. It's either I'm maturing with regards to music or I was very closed minded before.

Then Sam's Town appeared 2 or 3 years after Hot Fuss. And I can say, this album was one of the best albums I've heard for 2006, together with Panic! at the Disco's A Fever You Can't Sweat Out... It took a while before I got to play all the tracks, and did a mental reviews of the songs. But the Interlude and Exitlude was kickass and hilarious. Plus, my personal favorite Sam's Town was my anthem while driving along EDSA. (and yes, as far as cover design is concerned, hello! There is a chick and a goat. what could be more better than a chick and a goat beside a beatup looking warehouse? haha)

Anyway, I have to work...and the little boy is looking over my shoulder as I write. I don't mind people reading my entries really, but the fact that he does it while I write is a bit awkward...no offense though >:D<

Saturday OT, Alone times, and ♥

Another saturday at the office...new project, new responsibilities. if this was DotA talk, i'd say my twin and i have been promoted to the macho creep stature.

it's still weird. people coming and going... nobody stays, everybody just tries to leave something for you then walks away...

maybe someday people will want to stay

Swallowing eel bone hurts like f*ck

Sunday, the usual rituals. Mass. And my aunt who had a surprise birthday bash last night at Alex the III at Wilson, San Juan, invited us over to have a birthday lunch at their place at Wilson.

The food was yummy take-out from Gloria Maris. Tossed Long Life Noodles (misua), Hot shrimp salad, salt and pepper spareribs, leftover Oxtongue in mushroom sauce, Sauteed Broccoli and Baby Corn, and the not-so-yummy eel.

I'm not a big fan of eel, in fact eating one earlier was a torture. I swallowed the eel bone by mistake, which is like the soft white bone of the chicken, and it took a long time going down to my stomach. which i hope was digested already, or i'll probably be admitted to the hospital for another unecessary operation u_U

we headed over to powerplant i don't really know why. I was already tired, but lo and behold they were having a sale. This was my Haul for today. (Separate pictures at the bottom)

Books from Fully Booked
Books for sale appeal to me like my sister or my mom with mango/zara having a sale. I got 3 new books.
Grimm's Grimmest Tales - The Grimm Brothers
Beijing Doll - Chun Sue
and Fearless FBI Book 2 - Francine Pascal
Wallet from Girbaud
My wallet is already bursting at the seams...I needed a new one since I noticed I carry too many cards / papers for my own good.

Laptop Sock for Wilson
I saw a really cute laptop sock for my lappy Wilson, It's a dark army green with the words Web Site Story printed on the front.

i'm ryan from the OC, book favorites atbp

Aside from watching the last ep on season 2, I never did try or never had the courage/effort to watch the series again. Although if its staring at my face maybe, I will...

These are one of those times I'm facing a dose of writer's block. Like a big dam was trying to keep hold all my words my thoughts and ideals.

Recently, I have seen the booklisters community and i must say it gave me second thoughts and even
humbled my reading capabilities. When a certain Lj friend gave me thought regarding what books I loved/read that was published before the 1900s...my mind went blank. Aside from the Filipino classics Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo...I was shell-shocked to find none. You can say that modern writings fascinate me more, and I'm not very fond of the thee art thou although Macbeth seems like a nice read and Edgar Allan Poe seems fascinating.

I could now go on and continue Sun Tzi's The Art of War which I let my mom borrow for a while. And I have that 500php gift card for Fully Booked from my sister....which I will be looking for new books to read.

Inspired by their apps, I recently began compiling my Top 15 Books. Here are some of them. (Reviews soon to follow)
  1. Falling Leaves - Adeline Yen Mah
  2. Shanghai Baby - Wei Hui
  3. The Joy Luck Club - Amy Tan
  4. Nip 'n 'Tuck - Kathy Lette
  5. Heaven and Earth (Book 2) , and Books 1 and 3 from The Three Sisters Island Trilogy - Nora Roberts
  6. Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban from the Harry Potter Series - JK Rowling
  7. Of Love and Other Demons - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
  8. Digital Fortress - Dan Brown
  9. Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden
  10. The Gangster of Love - Jessica Hagedorn
  11. Tuesdays with Morrie - Mitch Albom
  12. Kiss (book 5) from the Fearless Series - Francine Pascal
  13. Stick Figure - Lori Gottlieb
  14. Blue Orchids - Julia Fenton
  15. The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
it might change or something. I'm not particularly sure. but anyhow. pics and reviews of the book to follow maybe

A day of random sorts

today, i had plans to shop for a chest of drawers with ben, plans were turned around abruptly since my little sister had no company at home, so i tagged her along. which made me not do the thing i was planning. (which was to buy a chest of drawers).

we met ben at Timezone around 11ish. And went to EGG for a quick PS2 fest. Trying out the game I was chickening out for a long time already which the zomgzwtfbbqsauce Fatal Frame 2 : crimson butterfly. To prep me, I read up info (no spoilers) from the Fatal Frame 2 official site.

It was broad daylight. We had a cool plasma tv and the slim PS2 plus a controller with a faultyR2 button. I was the one controlling it at first, but when I saw the first appearance of ghosts...i freaked and let him controlled most of the parts. :P

after another few minutes of TMNT, and Metal Slug 6, we headed to Teriyaki Boy to eat, Chicken Teriyaki don for him, kani salad for me and tempura for my sister.

Enteng Kabisote was beyond my expectations. After seeing the failed Karma, I vowed not to watch any MMFF films anymore. But since here is my sister, who compromised Enteng for her wanting to watch Mano Po 5, I had no other choice. The review would probably soon follow.

After that Timezone fest. Played DDR after the longest time, the dance maniax Upper Right Sensor for center playing (or the Upper Left Sensor for 2nd Player) was busted. Tried the UFO catcher, and played HOD4. Zombies no problem. Something abour carrying ancient cameras, creaky sliding wooden doors and eerie fog all around gets me :|

A late afternoon snack at Cafe Breton with Roel and Harmony ended the good day.

To have waited for my sister who already went home :| was the pits. It was dizzy walking around calling about 20 or so times for her to answer...Gah. I already forgot to bring home some roast beef from dayrits :-<

well i'm glad i'm home. i got to talk with a certain friend of my mom's who treats us like family. She asked me if I was the one who wanted a job in Shanghai, I told her "Why not? :D" She told me to apply :)... I'd be keeping that in mind...but not yet maybe...someday :) if i feel i'm ready :D
